The Sturgeon Moon: RESILIENCE + ADAPTABILITY 08.07

August Full Moon Reflections + Yoga

The August full moon is named for the Sturgeon fish that populate the Great Lakes. This ancient fish has been in existence since prehistoric times – evidence of itg longevity and adaptability! Sturgeons represent longevity, resilience and adaptation. This symbolism encourages us to cultivate our inner strength and perseverance, particularly as summer transitions into autumn.

The moon’s connection to the sturgeon, a creature with a rich history, reminds us to pull from the wisdom within us. This wisdom can be found through our own intuition, and from the ancestral and cultural knowledge we contain. Spiritually, the Sturgeon Moon invites introspection, patience, and connection with one’s roots, while also marking the upcoming transition to Autumn.

This time of year we start to feel the heat of Summer reaching its highest points. We may be itching for fall to set in so that we can experience the joys of crisp leaves, cooler days, and autumn activity. We are reminded to have patience, because just beyond the edge of fall lies Winter. How can we use this end of the season to begin preparing and building our resilience for what lies ahead? By turning to our intuition and our deep wisdom – whether through the Self, our history or culture, we can find a wealth of knowledge and guidance to turn towards.

Join Marta for an evening of intentional breath, movement and active inner listening, as we seek wisdom to build resilience and adaptability within us. In this 75-minute class, you’ll be guided through:

  • Full Moon discussion and centering (5 minutes)

  • Pranayama + Somatic Practice to build deep awareness (15 minutes)

  • Slow Flow to cool the body and build strength reserves (20 minutes)
  • Restorative Postures to find patience and introspection (15 min)

  • Meditation + Journaling to connect with our inner wisdom (10 minutes)

Be sure to bring your mat, a journal, and an open mind as you allow yourself to be illuminated by the lunar energies.

Marta Gruber

Marta has a passion for helping individuals connect with and feel empowered in their own bodies. Their own practice has ebbed and flowed with different emphasis and styles throughout their life, and they feel that the same permission should be offered to their students. She believes that exploration is an important part of finding acceptance in our bodies and that rest is a powerful form of rebellion. It is these beliefs that encourage a sense of softness, playfulness and affirming support with every yoga class they lead.

Whether leading a restorative practice or an active vinyasa flow, Marta strives to bring a down-to-earth, genuine approach to her teaching, hoping to help forge grounded confidence in each student’s practice. With over 18 years of experience practicing yoga, her whimsical sense of humor and vast knowledge of the practice is woven into each class she teaches, opening the door for students to more deeply discover connections between poses, themselves, and the community around them.
